It did take a little while getting used to writing my ebooks in this way, but once you've written a few ebooks which have been formatted for rebranding you start to get the hang of it. The instruction manual that is included with Viral PDF is well written and explains this tag system perfectly. Once you have tagged everything (text and links) you want to rebrand, you can then convert the document into PDF format.

There are two pieces of software included with Viral PDF; the Viral PDF Signer and the Viral PDF Rebrander. After you have composed your ebook in the correct format and created your PDF file, you then have to sign it. To do this, you open the Viral PDF Signer, drag across the PDF file you want to be signed, click Sign and then save it. This really is an easy step (just drag and drop) and once you have done this your PDF file is all ready to be rebranded. The signed copy is what you will be distributing to your customers with the Viral PDF Rebrander so they can rebrand it.

Overall, Viral PDF is not the easiest product to use. You don't simply select the links and choose what you want them replaced with. However, once you've done a few test runs it gets pretty easy to use. What I really liked about Viral PDF was Sean Kelly's customer service. I was having problems with the Viral PDF Signer not working with my PDFs (I was using Open Office to create my PDF files). Sean got in touch promptly saying the problem was due to the formatting of Open Office PDFs and he would begin work on an update immediately. Sure enough, in a couple of days Sean sent me the update and it worked perfectly.

My main criticism of this product is that it doesn't seem to support encrypted PDF files. Therefore, people can copy the text within your branded PDF file. Apart from that I have no complaints. Viral PDF performs all the tasks that Sean says it does and after a few uses it is pretty easy to get the hang of.

GOOD POINTS

- You can give your customers more incentive to distribute your ebooks.

- You can increase affiliate sales of your product. - You can increase your website traffic.

- Sean's customer service is excellent.

BAD POINTS

- Viral PDF doesn't work with encrypted PDF files.

- The interface does require a little practice and takes some getting used to.

I have created a number of brandable ebooks and plan to develop more. I've also benefitted at the other end of the scale. I have branded other people's ebooks, rebranded them and received affiliate commissions for my efforts.

Recently you hear a lot about viral marketing, but how well is it understood? First of all I'm assuming it is not some kind of viral infection that we all seem to want to catch; please let me be infected with thousands of hits to my website. It's probably not like a computer virus that the folks at Symantec want to eradicate, but oddly viral marketing has attributes of both an infection and a computer virus. Well, maybe we internet marketing folks are taking liberties when it comes to defining our marketing methodologies, but it wouldn't sound nearly as cool if I called viral marketing something like "multiple methods of complementary marketing". So I'm willing to live with the term "Viral Marketing" if you are. If we can agree that viral marketing like an infection or a computer virus can get stronger, thus expanding over time then the rest of this article will focus on marketing techniques that have those attributes. The reason most of got into this type of business is that we believed that getting paid by the hour or a salary was pretty limiting, and that our internet business had the potential to grow virally. Now there are a lot of internet money making opportunities out there that I would not consider to be viral marketing including things like paid to take surveys, paid to read, paid to click, and whatever other methods where you get paid directly for the time you put into it. Now your back to working for someone else and all the limitations associated with getting paid by the hour. So what types of business opportunities or marketing techniques qualify as truly viral. Let's start with different types of businesses: Multi Level Marketing (MLM) companies - companies like Shaklee, Amway, Usana, and the list goes on and on. They are viral in that everyone you recruit has the ability to recruit many people under them, and you share in the profits of the whole team. Great concept, but doesn't always pan out if your downline isn't very active. Affiliate Business Opportunities - Now probably everyone will disagree with me, but many of the affiliate business opportunities share the same characteristics of an MLM. Usually you profit from multiple levels of downlines, those that you refer and their own referrals. There are literally thousands of affiliate business opportunities out there like the Free Store Club, DealDotCom, or MyPowerMall, just to name a few. Well it doesn't do much good to have a viral business without some kind of viral marketing tools that also expand their capacity to generate traffic and ultimately income over time. The rest of this article will focus on my favorite viral marketing tools. Here are some that I use: List builders - We are talking about email marketing here, where the intent is to build your list of people that you can solicit or advertise too. A couple that I use include YourLuckyList and ListJoe; these two are slightly different, but the idea is that your recruiting efforts are focused on building a list of people that you can email on a periodic basis. Of course you can build your own list without one of these programs. As your list grows you are reaching out to an ever expanding audience, and some of these programs offer multiple levels of referrals that make them really viral. Writing Articles - One of the great things about writing articles is that they have a long half life, meaning they can help you get traffic to your website for years, and they get picked up by the search engines creating back links to your website, improving your search engine rankings. It is clear that writing articles is a true viral marketing method and it is free. Downline Builders - I wrote an article on downline builders recently because they are a truly viral marketing technique because they can expand your presence exponentially. As people sign-up for the downline builder they will often become part of your downline. Advertise one good downline builder and you have the potential to get hundreds of referrals in multiple programs. This is much more efficient that promoting each marketing tool on an individual basis. My primary downline builder is Vital Viral and I have referrals 4 levels deep. So instead of promoting traffic exchanges, list builders, and other marketing tools with separate advertisements, consider using a downline builder for its viral marketing characteristics. Without getting into a lot of detail I want to mention a few other marketing tools that have those viral characteristics that have been discussed: * Portals like LinkScout * Website Directories * Web Forums * Traffic Exchanges * Viral sites like Free Viral * Networking groups like LinkReferral or Reality Networkers In my opinion for you to experience the real benefits of viral marketing you need to begin utilizing multiple marketing channels, and not get caught up in programs that focus on getting paid by the hour, but instead focus on those programs that can expand as you refer others. One example of successful viral marketing is Hotmail, a company, now owned by Microsoft, that promotes its service and its own advertisers' messages in every user's e-mail. However, viral marketing is one of the easiest and cheapest things you can do to grow your online presence and turn your efforts into a money maker.

Viral marketing has definitely gained its popularity over the global network. More and more businesses are adopting this marketing strategy to gain their fair share in the market. The approach developed by Hotmail in increasing its number of subscribers is one classic example of viral marketing.

How Hotmail Did It

Hotmail is one of the first web-based email provider that gives away email addresses for free. Their marketing approach starts by giving free web-based email addresses and additional services. Each of the messages sent with a Hotmail address has an advertisement at the bottom that goes: “Get your private, free email at http://www.hotmail.com.”

Dr. Ralph Wilson, an e-commerce consultant, named six elements or basic principles of viral marketing. A viral marketing technique need not have all of these, but the more principles it follows, the more powerful the strategy will be.

1. Give away products or services. This is the first and most basic principle of viral marketing. When a person hears the word “free,” it elicits the interest in him and will avail of that free product or service, for sure. Having cheap or inexpensive products may also do the trick, but “free” will give much faster results.

Patience is important in viral marketing. Giving away products for free may not earn profit today but if the business gets to develop customer base by giving something for free, it will soon generate income for them.

2. Easy transfer to others. The medium used to carry the marketing message to other people should relatively be easy. Viral marketing has been powerful over the internet because of the ease of communication the technology offers. Email, web sites, software downloads are just some examples that can be used in viral marketing.

Also, it is better that the message be short for easy copying and transmission. Simple and short but straight to the point is best, just like Hotmail’s advertisement at the bottom of each email sent out.

3. Scalability from small to very large. When viral marketing is used as a marketing style, it is best that the business is prepared for rapid growth. In cases of increasing web traffic thru viral advertising, the web owner should make sure that the host server is prepared enough to handle the expected increase in traffic within a short period of time.

This should not be taken for granted; else, it will defeat the purpose of doing viral marketing. Once people notice that the site takes a long time to load, they will just leave and forget about it. That means an automatic loss of potential customers.

4. Exploit motivation and behaviors. A marketing strategy that builds on motivation and behaviors of people for its transmission is a definite plus. People love to be popular. This motivation will drive them to communicate to more and more people to be known.

5. Utilize existing networks. According to social scientists, an average person has about 8 to 12 members in their close network of family, friends and colleagues. Moreover, internet gives way to creating a bigger network circle. Learning to use these existing networks in viral marketing will yield better results.

6. Take advantage of other’s resources. Viral marketing need not consume all your resources away. Using other web sites in posting your articles, for example, will get them read by a large number of people without the need of creating your own web page.

It is best to learn these basic elements or principles of viral marketing first before actually doing it. Being to aggressive without doing your homework may just lead to damage instead of success. Try to adopt those that may be applicable to your product. Use all of the principles, if possible, for a more successful output.

The clip, at 92 seconds, shows a hideous alternative to the service that the company aims to offer the customer. This inversion of a traditional television advertisement shows how far advertising has moved since it inception. Having only recently been launched, it will be interesting to see how many views the video receives. A successful viral advert relies on viewing figures, not the popularity of the advert itself. The aim of the viral is to launch or reinforce a brand identity and to encourage word-of-mouth promotion. With little or no money involved, the viral can be seen by a massive audience who will then talk about it to non-internet users as well as fellow web-users. However, as the new media gains popularity and attention, the competition will become fierce, forcing viral ads to be more diverse and attention-grabbing than ever.
